Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I am a photographer specialising in newborn baby photography. The majority of my photosessions are held in my studio, but I also enjoy photographing sessions on location. Please stay a while and enjoy the posts, read upto date news, and if you like what you see and would like to know more about what I do, please get in touch, ask me anything, or book a photosession. I'd love to hear from you.

The lady is a vamp

Following on with the theme of the last few days ;P (hence the title!) although I do have a bit of a rant for this post! Firstly, I'd like to point out that in no way am I thinking I am being the big 'I am' (!) here, but I came across something this week that really did niggle me.

My rant that I have is with certain people who think just because they have a 'nice' camera that they are 'professionals' - now, I'm not a pro, and don't ever attain to be, but I am so methodical about my work; the whole concept of what I do is in my mind should be nothing other than perfect, my whole livelihood depends on how my 'eye' for photographs sells or displays to others and clients. So when I see someone who for one reason or another thinks if she can than I can do it too...etc, etc.
I happened to stumble across one such example via a website advertising their services. Now, honestly I'm not trying to be snobby, but the photographs that this 'photographer' took was really blurry, the composition all wrong, underexposed, overexposed, obstructive detailing, and all very 'snapshot-ish' in my honest opinion, I could go on, but surely this isn't right?

There is a moral point to this rant! If you do start out that way, then please, please learn all there is to know about what your camera does, the concept of knowing how to take a good photograph before you start advertising your services, etc. I know everyone has to start somewhere, and anyone can take a good photo, its being able to sustain it, evolve from past 'mistakes', learn your craft, again I could go on...but people should know the basics one hopes before they embark on something like this!

I just feel so passionate about photography, what it means to me, (for some people they think its a quick way to make a buck (tut, tut) - especially from weddings, it couldn't be further from the truth), I'm constantly learning, reading up on so much photography related issues daily! I am quite obsessed about it actually! Ultimately it's the hard work that photographers put into their business, the ways in which to conduct yourself and also the fact that you value your work to the highest degree and still be overly-critical about it, being able to evolve and find your style, as well as take on a mountain of other stuff!

I still have a very long way to go, but I think I'm proving my worth (or at least I hope so - see, I can be over analytical about the silliest things!) I just know that I have the ability to be truthful to myself and not feel I'm doing injustice to other people who truly value my work.

As they say the proof is in the pudding, or excuse the pun, the images speak for themselves...

Ok, rant over! As I can't post without a photo, how about another gorgeous shot of Ms A and her gloriously big blue eyes! She is such a sweetie...

Do/Don't agree with my opinion, feel free to comment - I would love your views!
