I would say most of my clients are very nervous about having their photographs taken, they're not too sure what to expect, how to react and most of how how to act infront of the camera, this is where I think the photographer's job is to make their clients feel comfortable. Obviously within reason the client is open to suggestions and more or less feel almost relaxed and actually enjoy it within the first quarter of an hour! I think the majority of clients are worried about hang-ups, these could vary in terms of 'love handles' showing, don't like profile shots etc, but I always try and tackle these 'hang-ups' in a way that is flattering, I above all know how it is to feel about having something I physically hate showing up in a photograph, but because of this and with knowing what the client wants is crucial to me getting it right in camera. All my clients actually tell me, oh I hate close-ups, and what do I do - I don't listen and do close-ups (LOL!) not that I dismiss what my clients say, its just that I want to give them an opportunity to see how I can change their minds about certain things, and nine times out of ten it works!
For example my recent client hated close-ups, she had major hang-ups despite her being in her forties, she had a gorgeous figure, beautiful hair and stunning features, I just thought if she thinks she's less than pefect that spare a thought for us mere mortals. But I found out later that she was always bullied from childhood, (I told her that those people were just jealous) and that she had nothing to worry about, she really got into the session and she was very pleased with her photographs, especially the close-up one I did of her! Look at the photographs and decide for yourself...
